Sean Scully Biography

Sean Scully (b. 1946, Dublin) is an American painter and printmaker. He has exhibited widely in Europe and the United States, and is represented in the permanent collections of more than eighty museums including the Art Institute of Chicago, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, Museum Folkwang, Essen, Museum of Modern Art, New York, Nagoya City Art Museum, Japan, National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C, Tate Gallery, London, and Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.

Scully’s projects with Alexander and Bonin include a 2003 exhibition of photographs from the monograph The Color of Time: The Photographs of Sean Scully and Liliane, a 2010 exhibition of Scully’s most ambitious etching project to date. Between 1996 and 2010, Alexander and Bonin and Sean Scully co-published four portfolios of etchings and aquatints.
